Box Office Xpress - Competitive Programs

There are essentially 4 categories of in-house ticketing programs. This does not cover the area involving Internet sales since the variety of methods available generally involve third party products or services in addition to the ticketing programs.

Pricing Overview

Price generally reflects the amount of features that the software program provides. Some products have a flat price. Some charge service fees, licensing fees and/or ticket fees. The prices expressed here represent an initial payment without any additional fees.

Category 1

Price: Typically well under $1000.

Suitability: Low-end software.

Downside: Perhaps suitable for some extremely small theatres, many feel this type of software falls short of meeting their needs.

Category 2

Price: Ranges between $1000 to $5,000. Some annual fees may apply.

Suitability: Generally speaking, these products are suitable for small theatres* who require basic sales and marketing functions. Despite the lack of more elaborate functions, many theatres are quite content with the available functionality.

* Small theatres would typically be those with under 1,000 seats. Highly active and profitable small theatres may prefer a program that falls into category 3 or 4.

Downside: Since an organization tends to have its own preferred methods of doing things, each venue's expectations will be different. Because software in this category does not have all the potential functions available, as you would expect from category 4, there may have to be some compromises. For this reason, despite some claims you may hear, these products are never suitable for very active, larger venues.

Our Product: Box Office Xpress Junior falls into this category and, as you can see from the fully functional trial version, has extensive functionality. Add its unsurpassed user-friendliness, and you have an ideal choice for most any small venue.

Category 3

Price: Falls into the $10,000 to $30,000 range. Plus possible add-on modules, annual service plans, licenses and possibly other fees.

Suitability: These appeal to very busy, mid-sized venues who don't need all the features available in category 4. Generally speaking, these are very similar to category 2 products but with more features. Some of these products may also support multiple venues.

Downside: Many of these products still fall short in many areas and, consequently, don't fulfill all the needs of these types of venues.

Our Product: Box Office Xpress, although designed to also satisfy the requirements of category 4, is an outstanding choice for these venues. Because of it's pricing model, it is suitable for venues who are limited to a budget for this type of category. With extensive features and add-ons available, Box Office Xpress is also ideal for a growing venue.

Category 4

Price: Typically starts around $50,000 to $100,000 for initial expense. Expect to purchase add-on modules, annual service plans, licenses and per-ticket fees.

Suitability: With an extensive array of features, these products cater to large, very profitable venues.

Downside: For the most part, these are also the oldest programs on the market, and their age shows with many still resembling their DOS origins. Many of these products use proprietary databases, and some are designed to run on Unix. Almost all of these companies require that the venue has a skilled computer technician on staff who would maintain an umbilical link to the company's service department. Extensive training is a must for almost all of these programs.

Our Product: Box Office Xpress takes a different approach to the design of the software by making it extremely user-friendly and of a quality that does not require an extensive need for technical support. Through extensive on-line help and tutorials, training is not considered a requirement.

Box Office Xpress Summary

Box Office Xpress Junior falls into Category 2, while the regular version of Box Office Xpress, because of it's enhanced features, covers Category 3 and is sometimes appropriate for Category 4, depending on the venues needs.
